I’ve been thinking about starting a blog again recently. I used to blog in the Internet Golden Era, but replaced that healthier habit with constant, mindless doomscrolling and arguing with robots.
So the thought’s been there for a while: go back to the old way, the new way sucks.
But what finally broke me down to start this blog—working title: A Disorganized Pile of Stuff—was pretty dumb. I posted to /r/NoMansSkyTheGame last night about a griefer who vandalized a base I had built in my go-to relaxation game. An old Redditor, I used the image upload site Imgur, then woke up this morning to a lengthy discussion about how nobody knows why the UK banned Imgur.
The internet sucks now.
So, where do I host this stupid image album that everyone can see it? What if I hate Reddit’s new-ish default image hosting server, and I don’t trust that moderators won’t maliciously remove content?
Am I just an old man shaking his fist at the clouds?
No. No, I’m a middle-aged man with a fresh new blog. Fuck you.
Anyhoo, here’s what Keir Starmer (which isn’t a real name) thinks is porn, complete with petty grievances:
NMS Base Invader

My home base near the core of Galaxy 256, Odyalutai.
I’ve been building onto this base as I needed new things or got new parts for the past nine months. I didn’t build it around a portal, or any expedition/mission-specific resources. I found a system near the core that someone else had already discovered, but there weren’t any other bases in the system. For the longest time, it’s been peaceful.

I didn’t mind being in a core system with moderate traffic, and I regularly take visitors to this base, but I clearly wanted to be left to myself in this one little spot on a paradise moon. Case in point, my base has a cemetery with the first names and life years of people close to me who have died. It’s my most intricately detailed base ever, and it’s very obviously personal to me.

I showed up tonight and noticed that some schmuck has built a giant, ugly plank over the top of my home base. It connects to a base that’s built well enough that I know the person who did this understands the time and effort that went into the base he’s encroaching upon.

He really went out of his way, literally, to intrude. I know I can report the base computer and his base will disappear for me, but now I will always have to tell visitors to do the same which is a huge pain in my nipnip buds. It also increases my chances of the game crashing upon load-in if I load the game while inside my base. Absolutely infuriating behavior.

GamerHogZ, I hope your mother is reading this. Delete your base.
Well, that’s the inaugural post on my new virtually-themeless blog. Now I have a place to shout into the void of indifference without the algorithm answering back.
